Common Sense Social Marketing – Social Media About to Die

You’ve probably heard of websites like Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. You might even have an account at these sites created for yourself. When social media first came out, it was simply for connecting with others. For the longest time, people signed up because they wanted a way to connect with friends, family members, co-workers, and old classmates. However, the use of social media has expanded. It’s transcended into something that everyone uses, especially when it comes to business.

In order for a business to grow, people must know it exists. Furthermore, entrepreneurs need a way to advertise their products and services. They need a way to connect with the people without coming on too strong and most of all, without spending a lot of money. What better way to accomplish attracting huge numbers to your company website than by the use of social media? Social media websites are considered a highly effective way to advertise, and in some cases, your business can gain a lot of exposure.

Unfortunately, over time, the use of social media to advertise products and services has gotten a bit out of hand. People have went from simply posting a simple link to their website to continuously sending frequent updates about specials, sales, new opportunities, etc. to everyone’s inbox. Sadly for the entrepreneur, not everyone will be interested in their products. What happens is when people who are not interested in all the constant updates is that the advertiser misses out. They end up losing another potential customer because of their inability to advertise effectively.

The cold hard truth is that most people have joined social media for one reason – to meet people and maintain ongoing personal connections. If they want to purchase a product, they can do so at online store or local retail department store. Businesses are suffering because of their inappropriate usage of social media websites. They’re either advertising too much, not enough, or incorrectly. The bright side to the coin is that there are some people who are experiencing success from their social media ventures. They know how to properly present their sites and products in a way that make people want to purchase from them.

Instead of sending everyone constant updates and adding everyone they come in contact with, successful business people know how to correctly target individuals who are most likely to be interested in their businesses. Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes currently being made is that a lot of individuals are using their sites for business purposes only. The best way to connect with others is to genuinely try create a personal connection. All the advertisements and continuous spammed inboxes are frustrating and ruining the industry.

Social media  will die if something is not done.   The spam link  trend is becoming so big that people are caring less and less about the message they are trying to get across.  It’s time for entrepreneurs to ask themselves, “What is it that I’m really doing here?” To the average social media website user, all those advertisements are pointless and simply looked at as junk mail.

The way business people have begun to advertise has created an ongoing social media epidemic. Messages and links about business have become meaningless. One reason is obviously due to the frequency of the messages, and another is due to the insincerity that comes with the type of advertisement. No one is getting the point of the message but the entrepreneur themselves, and that is exactly what is killing the social media industry.

Something needs to be done about the fragile state of the social media industry, and fast. You may have noticed that as soon as one site becomes popular, it quickly falls prey to the bombarding from internet marketers and other supposed advertising professionals. Suddenly, another site is created and like vultures, the same people flock to the new found social site in hopes of making a couple of sales. It’s downright ridiculous. It’s not hard to see that social media is merely evolving. It’s happening so quickly that hardly no one can see it, but it’s definitely happening. Right now, social media is dying, and soon, it will be another thing of the past.

What’s your opinion?

Nature of the beast. Stuff comes and goes on the web nowadays…the next evolution may even be “better” then what we perceive “social media” to be.

Even still, the “spammers” that send this stuff on social media sites are much easier to reject and block then say your standard junk mail that can still get through. It only happens because sales still get made…(you can profit off of stupidity)
