Why You Need To Blog, and How to Get The Most Out of It

blogBlogging is one of the best things that you can do for your business. It’s a great platform to share information with your network, establishes your credibility and brands you as an expert in your industry,  improves your website’s SEO and increases your lead generation. So how do you blog and make the most of it?

Install WordPress on your website to publish your blogs to your website. This will help drive traffic to your site to read your blog. It will keep people on your site longer, reading your blog. Every blog that you publish to your site creates another indexable page by Google, increasing the SEO of your site.

Chose topics to write on that are of value and would be of interest to your network. Don’t self promote! Do a keyword search to determine areas of interest.  Showcase your areas of expertise. Teach them something. Show them how to do something.  Answer their FAQ’s. Provide top 3, 5, 10 lists. This helps establish your credibility and brand you as an expert in your industry. You can also republish blogs of other experts in your industry.

Write a title that grabs their attention and describes what the blog is about. Use keywords in the title. Summarize what the blog is about in the first paragraph. Outline your message throughout the body of the blog. State what you accomplished in the concluding paragraph. Keep your blog to around 1 page and around 500 words. Use keywords throughout the blog to increase the SEO of your blog.

Insert a call-to-action with a link at the end of blog. Have them to sign-up for email delivery of the blog to capture their email address and other contact info to build your email database. Have them like your Facebook business page to increase your likes. Have them follow you on Twitter or on your LinkedIn business page to increase your followers. Have them connect with you on Google+ to increase your circles. Have them get in touch with you to learn more about what you can do for them.

Publish at least 1 blog per week to your website. You could also publish multiple blogs per week, ideally daily! Pick the same day and time of the week to publish your blog. Tuesday through Thursday mornings are best! Email your blog to your email database using Infusionsoft, Constant Contact, Mail Chimp or some other software. Post your blog to your social media network. On Facebook and LinkedIn, post it to your profile, business page, group and other groups you’re a member of. On Google+, post it to your profile, business page, community and other communities you’re a member of.  Tweet it on your personal and business Twitter and others you’re following.

You could also repurpose your blog content into a video. You could shoot your own video or have someone shoot it for you. Print the blog text and blow it up to use as cue cards. Use the same title and include the first paragraph as the summary. You can add up to 24 keywords to the video. Add 24! Pick another day to distribute your video. Publish it to your blog. Upload it to your YouTube channel and embed it on your website. This helps your website and video SEO. Email it to your database. Post it to your social media network.
